Contacting the redistricting commission ASAP

The Sons of Perdition Democrats are up to their old tricks.  As we know, all across the US the boundaries of political districts are being redrawn. The California Citizens Redistricting Commission is centered in Sacramento, the fourteen Commissioners are drawing lines for the entire State, and thus need input from local communities to know how best to do it.  Although the Commission is supposedly non partisan and contain five Republican, five Democrat and four No Part Preference members, the whole process is heavily influenced by Democrats.  It is no surprise then that the Commission is considering lines that would dilute the Republican vote so that Republicans will never again be able to win an election.

We have a very limited window in which we can prevent that.

Here is the proposed map for the Assembly District containing Burbank, Glendale, La Canada, La Crescenta, Montrose and Tujunga, all part of our current AD 43.  Burbank is broken off and joined to the San Fernando Valley; Glendale is broken out and joined to Hollywood and Los Angeles all the way to downtown; La Canada, La Crescenta and Montrose are broken out and joined to Pasadena which extends all the way out to Rancho Cucamonga.  Click on the map for an online interactive map.

What is to be done?  Glad  you asked, here’s the plan: we contact the Commissioners individually.

Before going any further I need to emphasize a couple of points.  The Commissioners are looking for a couple of things.  Any mention of political parties, political agendas or partisanship will immediately disqualify a public comment.  Put another way, DO NOT mention politics, political candidates or your political registration. Their rules will require them to ignore your comments if you do.

What they ARE looking for is “community of interest“.  Definitely include those words someplace in your communication with them.

Yes, you guessed it!  You, my patriotic fellow American are going to exercise your civic authority and inform your government what you require of them.  Obviously if you don’t live in the above mentioned communities you won’t be writing or calling about them.  In that case you would be writing or calling about your own community.

Below is the information needed to communicate with the Commission:

When you engage these people you can simply copy your original letter and simply change the addressee, no need to create a completely new letter for each of them.

Next we have sample points to be made to the Commissioners.  It is not necessary to repeat every point, one or two points will be sufficient.  Rather than simply copy and paste these it would be preferable to paraphrase them so that it is not obvious that this is a letter writing campaign, which would result in all our efforts being discarded.  Do feel free to add your own points, only remembering to add the words “community of interest” someplace among them.

Here are the points for Glendale:

  • We are not part of LA and shouldn’t be in with LA.
  • I don’t work or shop in LA or Hollywood.
  • Our community of interest is in the foothills along with Burbank.
  • Congressional districts are big so we’re going to get mixed in with others but our Assembly District should include all of our neighbors and our community of interest should be together in whatever Senate and Congressional district we are in.
Here are the points for Burbank:
  • We are not part of the San Fernando Valley and don’t belong in a district that is a Valley district.
  • Our community of interest is the foothills with Glendale.
  • If you lived here, you would know that Burbank is not part of the Valley. We are part of the foothills.
  • If I can’t find what I want in Burbank, I go to the mall in Glendale.  Or go to Glendale.
  • I don’t work in the Valley or live in the Valley or shop in the Valley.
  • Congressional districts are big so we’re going to get mixed in with others but our Assembly District should include all of our neighbors and our community of interest should be together in whatever Senate and Congressional district we are in.
Here are the points for La Canada, La Crescenta and Montrose:
  • My community of interest is the foothills.
  • I work, shop or go to movies in Glendale.
  • I have driven through Monrovia or cities in the San Gabriel Valley but have never been to Upland in San Bernardino County and have no idea why you put us in with these cities.
  • We share much with Glendale, we are in physically in the same hills as Glendale.
  • Congressional districts are big so we’re going to get mixed in with others but our Assembly District should include all of our neighbors and our community of interest should be together in whatever Senate and Congressional district we are in.
Here are the points for Tujunga:
  • Our community of interest is Tujunga and La Crescenta Montrose and La Canada Flintridge.
  • If I can’t buy what I need here, I go to La Crescenta Montrose and La Canada Flintridge, not LA.
  • We are physically in the same mountains or foothills.  Our issues and problems are the same.
  • Although we are part of the city of LA, we are really different.  We are rural, mountainous and horse country.
  • We live here for the small community feel unlike the rest of LA.
  • Congressional districts are big so we’re going to get mixed in with others but our Assembly District should include all of our neighbors and our community of interest should be together in whatever Senate and Congressional district we are in.
I cannot sufficiently emphasize the urgency of this matter.  The Commission is under a court deadline to get this done by mid December so the lines can be finalized in time for the candidate filings for the upcoming midterm primaries.  We have a very limited time in which to act.  The time to act is now.  Human nature is such that if we postpone a task it will be forgotten in the press of daily life.
Decisive action is the key to our success.  If these lines are imposed upon us we will not be able to form a coherent conservative block in our foothills at any time in the foreseeable future, perhaps ever again.  We will have given our power away through inaction.  We are not asking you to winter at Valley Forge.  We are not asking you to charge at Gettysburg.  We are not asking you to storm the beaches at Normandy.
We are asking you to write a few letters, make a few phone calls, send a few emails today.
