1984 or Brave New World? Why not both!
When megalomaniacs get together they don’t talk about wine or their rose garden or even their grandchildren. No, they talk about power. How to get it, how to hold it and how to make sure it never slips from their grasp. They are a bunch of Brains, as in Pinky and the Brain, forever scheming how to take over the world.
They pose as our benefactors. Oh, yes, they will do great things for us if only we allow them to humbly help us. In fact, some of them actually have done wonderful things. Bill Gates gave us MS DOS, then Windows, making using computers easy and intuitive – for certain values of “easy and intuitive.” Mark Zuckerberg gave us Facebook that lets us keep track of friends and family online. Larry Page and Sergey Brin came up with Google, world’s #1 search engine. Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim developed YouTube that educates and entertains millions every day. Jeff Bezos came up with Amazon, probably the greatest shopping center in the world.
Lately we have been discovering that there is a dark side to the good that they do. We have all seen the ideologically slanted censorship on social media, even Amazon pulls books that represent right of center views, and will pull them right off your Kindle reader. Bill Gates has moved from computer viruses to tainted vaccines for human viruses. And, of course, they are all capturing your information and selling it all over the place. But there’s more, oh, so much more. As your Irascible Correspondence has noted elsewhere, we are but cattle to them.
Here’s a discussion of some of what a little research has revealed.
Here’s Corey’s article at her site. What are you going to do about it?
